Day 3 (update)
OK, Sorry, so I'm a once a year blogger. I'll get it figured out how to get the text before the pics so you will know what you are looking at.
Day 3
This is the rocky beach at Ironwood, MI.
Elevator to top (18 stories high) then you walk outside even though it don't look like it is another 8 stories.
View from top (the pic does not do the sight justice)
View from where you get off of elevator
Coming down lift
Copper Peak from bottom of hill (mountain)
Waterfalls at Black River
Lake of the Clouds
Sandy Beach of Lake Superior
Buddy at our hotel
Balloon we saw yesterday
We left Iron Mountain and drove to Lake Superior. It was very calm today. The weather is absolutely beautiful here. From Iron Mountain we drove down the Black River Scenic Byway. Along the way was http://copperpeak.org/ Copper Peak Ski Flying Hill. The only one in the Western Hemisphere. You ride a 800 ft chair lift up the mountain, then take an elevator up 18 stories, then if you feel real brave you can walk outside another 8 stories. I did it, but, whew when I got to the top it was swaying so bad I came down real quick. The pics are some Buddy took from outside the elevator area. The wind was so bad I couldn't video from the top. After we left there we drove on down the Byway and stopped at a couple of waterfalls, but it has been really dry up here. So the falls were not too spectacular. We left there and went on down the road and by then it was lunch time. Well not much between there and where we were headed so we stopped at the first place we could find. It was called Hoop N Holler Tavern. I was a tad leery of it but the food was great and it was right on a huge lake. http://www.hoopnhollertavern.com/ Me and Buddy split a Reuben Sandwich and boy was it good. After we left there we made it to Silver City, MI and checked in our hotel. The Porcupine Mtn. State Park was only a couple of miles down the road, so we went on to it. That is where the Lake of the Clouds was at. From there you could see the ski jump we were at earlier and it was 20 some miles away. That is where my video camera has once again messed up and I'm a tad mad over that. We are now back out at our hotel and I'm getting ready to go out and sit by the water and read awhile.

Ate lunch at Backyard Grill in a neat little town with brick roads, (Around Rockford, IL) We are now in Ironwood, MI. It is as far west as you can get in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Day 1 Part 2
Nothing much to report. We didn't get as far as we planned, but hey what's the rush. We are in Terre Haute, IN a completely different route that we intended to make but decided we didn't want to be on the interstate (boring) So decided to jump off the interstate at Hopkinsville and went north on Hwy 41. There was a great Mexican restaurant within walking distance of our hotel. The food was delicious. Tomorrow our plans are to make it to Minocqua, WI. but who knows where we will end up. Nothing but driving tomorrow so probably still no pics until Sunday. Stay tuned, We are wingin' it.
Day 1
Today is the day for blast off. We should be leaving around 12:30 or 1:00. Our approximate destination today is Bloomington, IL. My dad came through surgery just fine, now if we can get some relief for his back. He should be home around noon. I hope to get to see him before we leave. I will update tonight wherever we land at.

OK, so I'm a once a year blogger. It is that time of year again to take our annual trip in the Pony (aka Mustang) We always try to take our vacation around our anniverary Sept. 3rd (32 wonderful years) Which is always around Labor Day so we get an extra day. This year we are going to the Western part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We start out going up through the middle of Illinois, Wisconsin, then to Ironwood, MI which is the most western city of Michigan. From there we go up the coast of Lake Superior to Copper Harbor, then to Marquette, Mi and Menominee, MI. Then we will be going into the finger of Wisconsin to the Sturgeon Bay area. This is all subject to change :) We have no definate plans, but this is the general area we will be in. I probably won't have any pics until Sunday, but I will try to post everyday as long as I have WiFi. We will be leaving sometime Friday, whenever Buddy can get away. My dad is having surgery on Thurs. on his corroded artery (putting in a stint) so keep him in your prayers. He is also having a lot of pain from his back and hip, so pray for some relief there. We celebrated his 83rd Birthday on Tues. night. What an amazing man. I have been so lucky to have him for my dad.
