Thursday Dinner & Shelby 1 month

Seems like it has been forever since we have had a full Thursday family night. I didn't cook last week as Craig's boys were both sick. John had a football game last night. Didn't think Craig was going to make it last night, but he did. We had a simple & easy meal of burgers, fries, green beans (imagine that) and salad. Even was lazy enough to use paper plates. The boys had their usual fun time together. Only a couple of minor mishaps. Papaw was roughing the boys up and Him & Nolen had a collision. Mitchell was running and bumped into Trevor's head and got a fat lip. Trevor slipped on some cardboard and whacked the back of his head. Boys will be boys. Sure hope Shelby survives them. I'm sure she will be right in the middle of it all in a few years. She is a month old today. My they change so fast.
Wish this pic hadn't blurred, it was such a cute expression on her face.

Amish Country

This is for my son Craig. Horse Drawn Buggie with a boat behind it. Go figure. I'm not sure about all the Amish rules, but I guess that this is OK. And once again if you click on any of the pics you will get the full effect of the picture.
Shopping at the local grocery store. Grocery store, I'm trying to figure out why they need it. Wash Day Work Horse Gathering pumpkins or gourds not sure. These are the tiny horses that the children learn to drive their carts with. We saw some yesterday but, since they really ban taking pics. I just hated to do it. (Plus I don't have my good camera with me) I could have snuck some good ones in if I had it. This is a phone booth. Amish don't allow phones in their houses, but they have these along the roads. I think they are only suppose to be used when neccesary. Present day school. They get there by the bikes, unless the parents drop them off in their buggies and come back and get them. I guess the buggies you see in the pic were the teachers and the horses are somewhere out in a field. This school is K-8th grade. That is as far as they are aloud to go. If they seek any further education they are banned from the Amish community. Nice Barn The rest of these pics are at a place called Amish Farms. The main house and barns are original, built in the late 1800's, some of the other buildings were moved there, from other Amish Farms. School House School Room
Horse drawn School Bus Childrens clothes that you still them in today. They didn't use to have closets so they hung their clothes on pegs around the wall. Horse drawn farm equipment The origianl Amish house on this farm. The Dawdi Haus or (Grandparents House) on this farm. Original barn that was built on this farm in the 1800's The next few pics are of barnyard friends
Buddy's new friend Oh, don't stop!!!!!!!!!!!

From Lighthouses to Amish Country

This is Little Sable Lighthouse. We have been to this one before in 2004. Everything is pretty much closed down here for the season. When we were here before we took a dune buggy ride, and you can't imagine how big the dunes are. You would think you was in the desert.

Whitehall Lighthouse
Some of the trees are turning bright red. USS Silversides Submarine. On patrol from 1942-1945 and then years after with Post war service from 1945-1969 NOAA Weather Station with Muskegon Lighthouse in the background. The weather station use to be the Coast Guard House, which is now behind it. Muskegon Lighthouse (Click on the pic and you can see the big ship in the background) Even the Amish horse drawn buggies have to have license plates now, which they didn't 2 years ago. This was a mother & son we were following on the way to the Cheese Factory, which as you can see by the sign, we still got to go to, even though there was a detour. This was at a chiropractor's office. There were several buggies here, so not sure what was up with that. Guess they get their bones out of whack too. The guy on the bike was chatting with the one driving the buggy.

This is an Amish home with a "Dawdi Haus" built onto the side of the main house. A Dawdi Haus is where the oldest child, when married, moves into the main house and the parents move into the Dawdi Haus for the children to take care of them. Large Amish work horses, I think they are called Percherons Amish Farm House & barn
