White Sands National Park-Day 9

We left the morning and drove about 4 hours. We crossed into New Mexico.
The vegetation changed from what we saw in Arizona
This mountain range was very unusual
They were doing missile testing in the area and couldn't get here until after 12:30, so worked out fine. We made it to......
Starting out inside the park you see lots of vegetation.

And then everything turns white. The roads are even covered and Buddy said it felt like driving on snow packed roads, except they aren't slick. Of course he had to check. :)
If you can see to the sides of the road, they have to scrape them just like snow packed roads.
That is Buddy at the top of one of the dunes, and..........
 here he is coming down.

At the entrance you can get sleds to ride down the dunes. These guys were riding. Going down wouldn't have been bad, but whew the walk up those dunes is tough.

The total area that is sand is 275 square miles. Just unbelievable. Only thing that would have made it better would have been able to see some water somewhere.

The Pony is patiently waiting on us to get back down

That is me at the top of a dune real shot
 Me close up with zoom

Once again if it had been a clear day these pictures would have been so much better. But, to tell you the truth, I'm glad it was overcast, because it was HOT when the sun came out.

These soap tree yucca's adapt for so long, but eventually can't hang on anymore. They say they could be as tall as 30 ft below the sand.
Tonight is our anniversary and we are staying in Alamogorda, NM. Had a great meal, sat outside and sat by the waterfall by the hotel and now planning on tomorrows adventure. Whatever that adventure is, will be going over this mountain. I think this is the Pony's last major climb.
This is some of the vegetation outside our hotel
