Headed home Day 10

Coffee anyone?

The Green Mountain Coffee Factory was also in Waterbury, VT Wow, how much better can it get, ice cream and coffee in the same area. After leaving there we went south and came across a covered bridge, which we think had been restored. After getting on down we stopped for gas and asked about the area. This was where it was hit last year by the hurricane. They lost lots of their covered bridges in this area.

 A little further south we found these....................

 This is a monument that was built for the RevolutionaryWar. It was built in 1891. All I can say is WOW. How did they do that so many years ago. Look at the people at the very bottom that was how tall it was.

 Oh  yea, I almost forgot about the Garlic & Herb Festival. Oh my, I could have spent some time there, but we didn't have long.

 There was everything you could think of that had garlic in it.....

 Nice................sounds...................................

 but, had to leave and then we were soon into Pennsylvania.

Ben & Jerry's-Day 9

Beautiful full moon last night at Bar Harbor

We left Bar Harbor and headed west. I was on a mission to get to Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. After leaving Maine we entered........

 The mountains up here are very pretty, but it was a bit rainy this day. Not many opportunities for good pictures. Soon we were in...

 Vermont................... and wasn't long until we made it to.........

 Ben & Jerry's. These are different kinds of ice cream scoops over the years...............

 If any of you watch Food Channel. This is where Robert Irvine from"Dinner Impossible" came here and did a meal for 400 employees and the whole menu had to have one of the flavors of their ice cream in every dish. There is a challenge for you Cindy Holland. :)

 During the tour of the factory, you couldn't take pictures, but this is the actual room where Ben & Jerry originally did their lab testing of flavors.

 This is a replica of the bus that Ben & Jerry started out their business in, traveling across the country giving away samples. The original bus burnt.

 Behind the factory is the graveyard where the flavors that didn't make it are.

I don't think so.    Not sure why this one didn't make it. :) :)

 These are the vats that go into the factory, and they were big...

After the tour they give you a sample of ice cream and it was Triple Caramel Chunk Swirl and it was good, but couldn't leave there without getting a real cone of ice cream. I got Strawberry Cheesecake and Buddy had Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. They have a Bucket of Ice Cream called the "Vermonster" We saw two boys that purchased it. It has 14,000 calories and 500 grams of fat. Now that is sugar overload. Not sure if they finished it or not. 

Acadia National Park-Day 8

When we were at Acadia National Park before we took a trolley tour around it, which was very informative, but this time we just wanted to take our time and go on our own. We stopped at the visitors center and got a narrative cd to listen to in our car as you went around the park at your own pace. There are a few very large homes that some folks have for summer homes. 

I love the rocky ledges

 This is the only part of the island that has a sandy beach, the rest is all rock.

 Not too far after leaving Sand Beach you come to Thunder Hole. When we were here before the water was at high tide and was very impressive. The water was splashing up to where you see the people on the left.  If you look close to the upper right of the tall rock, this crazy guy was leaning over and using an under water camera to take pictures of the sounds from where Thunder Hole gets its name.

 This is actually it. The water goes up under the rocks and when it comes back out it make a loud roaring sound when the tide is high.

 Just more rocky ledges. The formations and colors are amazing.

 We had stopped before going into the park and bought some sandwiches and stopped about halfway around and sat on a ledge and ate. This was a boat that had come into check his lobster pots.

  Another nice summer house to our right where we were sitting.

         Our eating partner. He was very polite and didn't bother us.

 This is one of the many rock bridges that President Theodore Roosevelt suggested to build for carriage rides and still active today. 

 At the park the high-lite is to go to the top of Cadillac Mountain. The view is just amazing. I won't bore you with all the details, but here it is. Buddy took so many pictures, I have had a hard time finding the best ones to post. It was a bit hazy, but still nice.
