Bar Harbor-Day 7

Our day started out leaving Rockport and driving up the coast on Hwy 1. There are lots of small quaint towns that you drive through all the way to Bar Harbor. Our first stop after going through Belfast, was Fort Point Lighthouse.
This is the front side view and.......

This is from the back. After leaving there we went to Searsport and tried to stop and see some friends of Roma & Dave Wharton at this.........
cute little ice cream parlor, but they weren't open yet. When we were here 3 years ago, we stopped in and visited with them and got free lobster rolls from them. Probably the best I have ever had. When we were up there before they had purchased an old train car and was refurbishing it into a dining car and......................
now it is all finished and we really wanted to see it, but had to move on toward Bar Harbor, and along the route we came across..
 this cool bridge................
After getting to Bar Harbor we ate lunch, yep lobster again and walked around the city. A beautiful town and the weather was perfect. This is a lighthouse way off the coast and this is the.......
town. These two pics are all of hotel that covers the whole street.

All up and down the side streets are neat little shops.......

This is a look at the bay from where we were eating.

This is why Bar Harbor got the name. At low tide you can actually drive and walk across this bar for a short period of time during the day.

After leaving there we went and found a room and it is facing the bay. Beautiful view. This is a schooner you can take a tour on.
And at last this is the sunrise this morning. We had a nice breakfast here at the hotel and now are about to go explore Acadia National Park. So until next blog we are off in the pony again.

New England Trip-Day 6

This blog is from Tues. night since I didn't have a good wi-fi connection and tonights isn't much better, but I'm going to try to get this to go through. After leaving York Beach we drove to Portland to see Portland Head Light. There are a few other lighthouses on the way that we had seen before, but didn't stop this time. Also the last time we were down Maine's coast it was rainy and foggy, so these pics are better than before. If you want to see the other lighthouses we have been to in this area go to my 2009 blogs and it was late April into first of May.

This is Whaleback light that you can see from Portland Head Light. The last time we were here it was so foggy we didn't even know it was out there.

This is where Rose Hips come from. It is a rose bush that blooms all summer like............
this, and then it has the fruit as above in late summer and fall and are used for jam, jelly, and also in cosmetics.
Not sure what this lighthouse is. It was off the coast from a place we went to eat lunch.
More rock formations. This was at Pemaquid Lighthouse.
The rocks here looked like logs the way they were formed.
                                                       Pemaquid Lighthouse

Rockland Lighthouse. This picture was taken from our balcony where we were staying. Yep, once again we had lobster for dinner. Tomorrow we are on our way to Bar Harbor.

New England Trip-Day 5

Today we were on a mission to get to one of our favorite states (Maine).... but we had to go through Boston, first, and the hardest part was getting to the city. Once you get there you go into the.....
                                                  tunnel under the city.....
                                              and before you know it........
you are out, and on your way.............to

our next Lighthouses, which were in New Hampshire, that were also at
Fort Constitution which was built in the 1700's. and........
this lighthouse was out on a small island from the fort....and...
this is what is left of the fort and the inland lighthouse in the background is Portsmouth Harbor Light in New Hampshire.
nice house on the ocean ..........
                           Portsmouth Lighthouse at Fort Constitution
The Fort.. and then we were onto our all time favorite lighthouse...................
Nubble Light. This is our third trip to see this lighthouse and we just love this place. York Beach, Maine is where I would love to live if it wasn't so far from my family. Just wish I could bring them all up here just once in my lifetime. Where we are staying we can see the lighthouse.
This basket is how the people that lived at the lighthouse got back to the mainland to get supplies and the kids that lived there had to get in the basket to get to school.
After leaving Nubble, we went up the road a bit and saw.......

The President Bush's compound. All I can say is "God Bless America" wish we had him back. Then we were back to where we were staying ......

We walked across the street and ate lobster by the water and watched this dog chasing his ball into the waves.........and

back to our room to see Nubble Light in her finest. Wow, I just love Maine.............................

New England Trip-Day 4

We left the Atlantic City area this morning and got on the Jersey Parkway and about $12 later we arrived at the New York City area.    The Parkway skirted around the city and I tried my best to get a couple of shots off and this was the best I could get. This is the new towers going up.

                                                  Empire State Building
We then had to pay $12 to get on the bridge to go over the Hudson River only to get to go through the wonderful area of Harlem.

Not long after you are past all of the New York area, you are into Connecticut. My main goal after getting through New York was to find an Apple store or ATT store. I did find one and "Rosie" our GPS took us right to it. I was one happy girl to get my phone back working. They replaced my SIM card and I was on my way. It is terrible that I can't go one day without my IPHONE. By then it was lunch time and we stopped at a place that had really good burgers. There was a couple of lighthouses that I wanted to see in Conn, and the first one was......................
Five Mile Point Light in New Haven, Conn. I took this shot along the road that we were traveling and then we passed these........
                                                         cool looking kites

and drove all the way to the lighthouse only to find out that it was $30 to park if you were from out of state, so............ I said NO WAY....  here is a pic of the lighthouse from my book I had with me and we moved onto the next one on my list for the day and that was....................
Point Judith Light in Rhode Island. I didn't think we would get to see much since it was on Coast Guard grounds, but they had the gate open where you could walk right up to it.
This is the coast guard house.
Not sure who started all this with rock castles, but there were several that were very unique.

This was a bridge in Rhode Island going into Newport and we saw this..........
house on rocks and also another..............
lighthouse. This is Rose Island Light. After crossing over we were soon in..........
Massachusetts. Tonight we are staying in Fall River.
Tomorrow we will be in Maine. I am planning on having lobster for the next few days.
