Fall Trip Day 1 & 2

We left Thursday morning on our vacation, via work stop for Buddy. We stayed in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This morning we were through with interstates and stayed on back roads. Went to the northern Indiana area of the Amish Country.
This was a beautiful Amish Farmhouse This is at a grocery store that we went in and bought the yummy Amish Peanut Butter Spread. Nothing like real peanut butter.

This was the Menno-hof which is where you learn how the Amish & Menonittes lifestyles are and how they came to America.

All around the area they grow gardens like this and they are in the shape of quilt patterns. It is late in the year and they are drying up, but I'm sure this one was pretty early on.

Here we are at the IGA grocery store.

You really have to be careful while driving down the roads.

Just happened to be Fall Festival in Middlebury, and again I wish I could take pics of all the cute little Amish kids. We walked through, didn't buy anything but it was lunch time and both of us had chicken and noodles (dumplings tenn. style) Wow, were they good.

Working the land

Seems wash day was Friday here. Usually it is Monday for the Amish, Maybe it rained on Monday and they are doing it today, because everyone had their laundry hanging out.

they have the road, you just move over when you can

going home from work
not sure but he sure was laughing
a pretty church, just loved the blue sky above, which I don't think we are going to see for the next several days

Ok, now we are on Lake Michigan

I have tried to tell my kids, being up here is just like the ocean without the heat and saltwater. Tell me it isn't true.

This is the dunes we walked up from the other side to the beach 8 yrs ago. Don't look that steep from this angle, but let me tell you it is steep. 4 steps up and 2 steps back. Hard to walk.

Michigan City, Indiana Who would think there was waterfront in Indiana

Great pics Aunt Becky! Mmm, that peanut butter sounds so good. I love the quilt patterned gardens!! So cool. Also, Lake Michigan looks a lot like the ocean. Looks like a great trip. :) Maybe you could do a quilt pattern next year in your garden! Sounds like a lot of work, though. :) Love you!
