Day 4

Ontonagon Lighthouse
Keewenaw Waterway Light

This is the Houghton Bridge. In the winter when the river is frozen the middle of the bridge is lowered to water level so snowmobilers can go across the bottom and cars go across the top.

Eagle River Lighthouse (private residence)

Eagle Harbor Lighthouse

Copper Harbor Lighthouse

Just had to take this pic.

This is the view from the Brockway Mountain, overlooking the city of Copper Harbor on Lake Superior, this is as far as you can go on the peninsula.

This is "Bete Grise Lighthouse"which is now a private residence, so couldn't get a good pic.

Yes, we did have to stop and take a pic of this. The city is Gay, MI and yes this is "The Gay Bar"

Looks like and ocean doesn't it?

We left Silver City this morning. Saw a lighthouse in Ontonagon, Mi. then drove on into Houghton, MI. From there we took a road about 10 miles from there to another lighthouse. The lighthouses are not as impressive up here as they are around the coast of Lake Michigan. We then took Hwy 41 toward Copper Harbor. That is as far as you can go north in Michigan on the Upper Peninsula. Saw a couple of more lighthouses. As you will see in the pics we stopped and took a pic in Gay, MI. I couldn't resist. It was called The Gay Bar. We then ended up back in Houghton, MI which is where we are staying the night. Nice river view from the room. It is hotter than normal up here. The normal average temp is 75 but the thermometer at a bank said 90. We have had nothing but blue sky. We ate dinner tonight at a restaurant that had a deck outside that overlooked the bridge that you see in the pics. This river is frozen over in the winter. The average snowfall up here is between 200-400 inches of snow. That is a lot of snow. Not sure where we will be tomorrow, but until then enjoy the pics.
